Virginia Assistive Technology Advisory Council

The Virginia Assistive Technology Advisory Council provides advice and guidance to the Virginia Assistive Technology System (VATS).  The Council supports VATS’ mission to expand awareness, improve access to and acquisition of assistive technology. 

Purpose
and Duties

The Council’s purpose is to provide input to support VATS in advancing the program’s mission to expand awareness, improve access to and acquisition of assistive technology. The Council also provides input on the development of VATS’ State Plan, which is required for federal funding. The Council typically meets twice per year.

Membership

All members of the VATS Advisory Council are appointed by the Commissioner of DARS. Members include federally-mandated partners (from the 21st Century Assistive Technology Act) as well as at-large members. The majority of members are required to be individuals with disabilities, users of assistive technology (AT), or their family members or guardians.
