For Individuals

DARS offers vocational rehabilitation services — a program that helps people with disabilities prepare for, find, and keep employment.

This is not a job application, but a support program to help you succeed at work and in your community.

What is VR?

Walk through DARS’ vocational rehabilitation services at our Culpeper office.

Who is eligible to apply for vocational rehab?

  1. Do you have a disability?
  2. Do you want to work?
  3. Are you having trouble getting or keeping a job because of your disability?

Testimonial Speaker

I’ve come a long way with Sentinel Robotics and I’m absolutely loving it. It leaves me for a loss of words sometimes just because of how incredible it’s been in my life, it being my first career, and I have a passion to get up every morning and look forward to coming to work and doing what I love doing.

Kaleb Jeffries started as an intern in a drone program through ESCC College, supported by DARS and his VR counselor. Now, he works full-time with Sentinel Robotics, earned his FAA Part 107 license, and flies drones in real-world missions.

Maintain Your Benefits

DARS participates in the Social Security Administration’s “Ticket to Work” program through VR services, which are available at all of our local offices. This program allows individuals who are disabled or blind between the ages of 18-64, and who are receiving SSI or SSDI, to protect their benefits while they test their ability to work.

Work Incentives Specialist Advocates (WISAs)

A Work Incentives Specialist Advocate (WISA) can help navigate the complex Social Security work rules by giving you an individualized analysis of how work will interact with benefits, health insurance, and disposable income.

If you’re interested in learning more about how a WISA can help you, contact your Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for more information.

Yes! It’s possible to keep receiving some disability benefits while you are employed.
