Pre-Employment Transition Services for Students

The Division of Rehabilitative Services partners with students, families, schools, and community organizations to support smooth transitions from school to adulthood. These programs provide support for career planning, job training, and other skills needed for life after high school.

For Parents or Guardians

In Virginia, schools begin planning for a student’s life after high school by age 14 for students with IEPs. This process, called transition planning, can feel overwhelming. Families often have questions about education, income, healthcare, housing, legal rights, careers, and more. DARS has resources to help.

For Employment Service Providers

DARS executes its vocational rehabilitation services through local service providers. There are 85 community rehabilitation programs throughout the state of Virginia who are approved to provide an array of employment-related services to individuals with disabilities.
